Week of April 13th - 17thThis week we will test over the Vietnam War chapter. After the test we will watch Forrest Gump, which covers the Vietnam War among other historical events.
Week of April 6th - April 9thThis week we will be studying the Vietnam War. This is our last chapter before the TAKS test.
Week of March 22nd - 26thWe will continue our study of Presidents Kennedy & Johnson
Week of March 9th - 13thThis week we will be discussing the presidency's of John F. Kennedy & Lyndon B. Johnson.
Week of March 2nd - 6thThis week we will be continuing our discussion on the Civil Rights Movement.
Also this week the school will be taking the English TAKS test. Week of Feb. 23rd - 27thThis week we will be discussing the Civil Rights Movement.
Week of Feb. 16th - 20thThis week we will finish up the Postwar Years @ Home (Chapter 20) and take the test over this chapter.
Week of Feb. 9th - 13thThis week we will be taking the Unit 3 test. This test will cover chapters 17, 18, & 19.
After the test we will begin Chapter 20 - The Postwar Years at Home. Week of Feb. 2nd - 6thThis week we will finish up our chapter on the Cold War. We will discuss the Korean War. We will also take a test over chapter 19 (The Cold War).
Week of Jan. 26th - 30thThis week we will be testing over WWII (Ch. 18). After the test we will start a chapter (19) over The Cold War.
In this chapter, we will look at 1. the origins of the Cold War between the United States & the Soviet Union 2. American foreign policy during the Cold War 3. the Marshall Plan, Berlin Airlift, & NATO 4. Korean War 5. McCarthy Era 6. the Arms Race Week of Jan. 19th - 23rdThis week we will be covering our 2nd chapter over WWII. Throughout this chapter / week we will look at:
1. how America mobilized the armed forces 2. How the Allies retook Europe from the Axis powers 3. the Holocaust 4. War in the Pacific 5. the social impact of WWII Week of Jan. 12th - 16thWe will continue to study the road to World War II. This week we will spend time talking about America's isolationism before we enter the war.
Week of Jan. 6th - 9thThis week we will be studying the build up to World War II. Specifically the rise of the European dictators.
Week of Dec. 17th - 22ndFINAL EXAMS
Week of Dec. 14th - 18thThis week we will be testing over Ch. 16 - The New Deal. Also this week we will be reviewing for Final Exams.
Week of Dec. 7th - 11thThis week we will be looking at FDR's New Deal as the United States continues to deal with the Great Depression.
Week of Nov. 23rd - Dec. 4thWe will be taking a Social Studies TAKS Benchmark this week. Also this week we will be looking at the Stock Market Crash of 1929. We will also be discussing the Great Depression.
Week of Nov. 9th - 13thThis week we will be studying the Politics of the 1920s. We will take a look at the terms of Presidents Harding, Coolidge, and Hoover. We will also discuss the social life of Americans during the 1920s.
Week of Nov. 2nd - 6thWe will be testing over WWI this week. We will also have a 6 weeks test toward the end of the week.
Week of Oct. 27th - 31stWe will continue to study WWI. The immediate cause as well as the main causes of the war will be discussed. Other topics of discussion will include the US's neutrality and the steps that took place that led to the US declaration of war. Also how Americans responded & participated in Europe as well as @ home. Last we will discuss President Wilson's plan for peace and the Paris Peace Conference.
Week of Oct. 20th - 24thThis week we are finishing up the Progressive Reform Era by taking a test. We will also introduce World War I. Week of Oct. 12th - Oct. 16thWe will finish up Chapter 10 by having a test. We will also start our next chapter which is Chapter 11. Chapter 11 is "The Progressive Reform Era". The years covered in this chapter are from 1890 - 1920.
1. When & how did the Progressive Movement begin 2. What groups were involved in the Progressive Movement 3. Women reformers such as Florence Kelly & Mother Jones Week of Oct. 5th - Oct. 9thThis week we will be discussing Chapter 10, "Becoming a World Power". The years that are covered are from 1890 - 1915.
A majority of the chapter discusses Imperialism with arguments for and arguments against. Theodore Roosevelt is the main president discussed in this chapter. Other topics discussed are: 1. The Spanish American War 2. Big Stick Diplomacy, Dollar Diplomacy, & Moral Diplomacy 3. The Roosevelt Corollary & 4. The Great White Fleet Week of Sept. 28th - Oct. 2ndThis week is the end of the 1st 6 weeks. We will be taking a test over chapter 9 (Life @ the turn of the 20th Century). We will also take a unit test over all chapters covered this 6 weeks. This includes chapters 4,5,6,7, & 9.
Week of Sept. 21st - 25thThis week we will be starting a new chapter. Chapter 9 is titled "Life at the Turn of the Twentieth Century".
In our discussions we will cover: 1. Education - this would be public education as well as higher education 2. Entertainment - performances (movies) & recreation (sports) 3. The Jim Crow Laws - segregation 4. The beginnings of Women's Equality Week of Sept. 14th - Sept. 18thThis week we will be finishing up the chapters on Industrial expansion in the late 1800s & the western expansion of the United States. We will be testing the last half of the week.
Week of Sept. 8th - Sept. 11thThis week we will be studying the American Industry in the 2nd half of the 1800s. This is chapter 6 of our textbook. Some of the topics that will be covered are:
1. advances in technology in the fields of energy, communications, and the railroads 2. the growth of big business 3. new labor laws, workers, early labor unions and early strikes. The second half of the week we will start looking at the Westward expansion that occured in the late 1800s. This is chapter 7 in our textbook.
